About Unbox the Room

Unbox the Room is a cozy organization puzzle that follows one woman’s life from 1997 to 2018 through the belongings she carries between homes. Open each moving box, study the available space, and find a logical place for every object.

What Comes Out of the Boxes?

• Clothes and shoes need suitable storage such as wardrobes and drawers.
• Books and toys can occupy shelves and other appropriate spaces.
• Kitchenware belongs around the kitchen and its storage areas.
• Toiletries need to be arranged in bathroom spaces.
• Electronics and decorations must fit around existing furniture without overcrowding the room.
• Household objects become harder to organize as later spaces contain more belongings and tighter storage.

Organize Each Room

Placement is the puzzle at the center of Unbox the Room. Click a package to remove the next object, inspect the room, and decide where it belongs. The game allows some freedom in arranging a space, but certain belongings have logical location requirements. During the completion check, incorrectly placed objects glow red and must be moved before the room can be finished.

Limited shelves, drawers, and surfaces make later organization more demanding. Using an obvious space for the wrong object can leave nowhere suitable for something unpacked afterward, so checking what storage remains is often more effective than placing every item immediately.

Read the Story Through Belongings

The rooms cover different stages of the protagonist’s life, including childhood spaces, university living, shared homes, and later moves. Unbox the Room communicates these changes through possessions instead of conventional dialogue. Objects that appear, disappear, or move into a different context can reveal changing hobbies, relationships, ambitions, and responsibilities. This makes item placement serve two purposes at once: finding the correct location solves the puzzle, while noticing what the character chooses to carry forward helps reconstruct her personal history.

How to Play

• Click a box to unpack an item.
• Move the cursor to a suitable location.
• Click again to place it.
• Reposition objects highlighted as incorrect.
• Arrange every required belonging to complete the room.
